The original photo was taken and referenced with permission from Julio’s Canadian owner and used for these reproductions. Waxy monkey tree frogs, Phyllomedusa sauvagii, are native to South America. These rainforest dwellers lay their eggs in folded leaves suspended over ponds so that the tadpoles drop into the water once hatched. They also have a skin secretion called deamorphin, which contains a natural opioid roughly 40 times stronger than morphine.
