These incredibly detailed drawings were completed with Faber Castell Polychromos and Prismacolor premier pencils 210gsm cold pressed cotton rag. The original artworks are considered micro portraits as they are under A5 size. Thanks and recognition is given to the photographers whose works were referenced with permission to make these critters come to life: Jasmine Vink for her feathertail pygmy glider and white-lipped tree frog photos, and Wendy Sinclair for her fairywren photos. These prints are reproduced with the finest quality inks and professional processing to ensure that they show every pencil stroke and mark like the original artworks. Helen’s high level of attention and detailing to not just the animal’s themselves, but also the branches and twigs they are resting on is a testament to her focus for realism and technique in the pencil medium.

Superb fairy wrens (Malurus cyaneus) are a relatively common garden and woodland bird in south and eastern Australia. Sexual dimorphism is found in the species, with the males (as seen in Superb Samuel here) showing off brilliant blue feathers unlike the browns seen in females. Faye is a feathertail glider (Acrobates pygmaeus). Named for her fairy-like delicacy, she is also an Australian native, and quite a small one at that. Weighing in at a mere 13g or so, these little creatures can be found in the treetops along the south and eastern coast of Australia, with some found in Northern Queensland. The final creature is the white-lipped tree frog (Litoria infrafrenata), named “Walter”. White-lipped tree frogs are the largest tree frog in the world, also known as the giant tree frog. White-lipped tree frogs can be found in New Guinea, and norther areas of Queensland Australia.
