ORANGE-BELLIED PARROTS:
Orange-bellied parrots are a critically endangered species found in south eastern coastal habitats of Victoria, and south western Tasmania where they migrate for breeding. They are only slightly larger than a budgie, and spend a lot of time on or near the ground. With only 50 or so individuals currently in the wild, captive breeding populations such as that at Moonlit Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia, are crucial in keeping this species away from extinction. These captive bred birds can then be used to boost the wild populations and increase genetic diversity.
THE ARTWORK:
The original piece was drawn exclusively in coloured pencil on A4 square (approximately 20cm square) Art Spectrum cold press cotton rag. Three separate orange-bellied parrot photos were used as reference for the two in the artwork. Photos were taken by Helen Grey from the captive breeding populations of OBP at Moonlit Sanctuary and Conservation park. For this piece, the key focus incorporating implied depth of field with the numerous plant species found in their natural habitats.
This piece is available as limited number (25) prints, printed on archival quality eco friendly Hahnemuhle card. Each print comes hand signed and numbered, with it’s own unique Certificate of Authenticity. Print size without frame is approximately 8"x11" (A4). All prints are created using archival inks and card, with professional scanning and processing to ensure colour matching and detail captures the original piece right down to each pencil stroke and card texture.
