"Southern Corroboree frog," Limited Edition print

A$30.00

This little iconic Australian frog is found in limited sub alpine ecosystems currently at risk of severe habitat loss and ecological vandalism.

Completed with Faber Castell Polychromos and Prismacolor Premier coloured pencils on 220gsm, 5”x8” cold press cotton rag, this scientific illustration was drawn in custom by artist Helen Grey, with the assistance of field ecologists who work with the species.

The southern corroboree frog (Pseudophryne corroboree) is sadly currently listed as critically endangered and would already be extinct in the wild if it weren’t for breeding conservation efforts of Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, and the Taronga Conservation society in New South Wales to supplement the wild population. The mossy wetlands where they live is incredibly important to waterway and ecological health of the ecosystem, and is sadly under a number of immediate threats from sources such as hard-hoofed invasive species such as deer and horses. The corroboree frog is classed as two species, the southern and northern (Pseudophryne pengilleyi) population. These two species can be distinguished by the ratio of their striking black and yellow markings with the northern darker in colour, and the sourthern more yellow. Unlike the popular notion of a frog, corroboree frogs do not hop, and do not ‘croak’. Instead they make a squelch sound and awkwardly walk over their substrate.

To complete this artwork, Helen worked closely with field experts on the species to ensure that the composition and habitat were correct, as well as the classic black and yellow markings were drawn in a manner indicative of the species.

These prints are professionally processed and reproduced on textured cotton paper with archival inkjet to ensure that they show every pencil stroke and mark like the original artwork. Printed as a limited line, the high level of attention and detailing in the different textures would be a perfect addition to any wildlife lover’s collection. Each print comes hand signed and numbered, with it’s own unique Certificate of Authenticity. Print size approx. 5”x8” (A5)
